A Russian Gilt Silver-Mounted Green-Stained Maple Burlwood Frame Fabergé, Workmaster(s) Anders (Antti) Nevalainen, and signed additionally by Karl Armfelt, St. Petersburg, before 1899, and with scratched inventory number 2121 to interior 9-1/2 x 6-3/8 inches (24.1 x 16.2 cm) PROVENANCE Property from an Important Private Collection. This unusual wood frame, is typical of many of Fabergé's mounted wood frames, with its gilded ribbon-tied laurel garland-swagged aperture for a photograph, but the burlwood has been green-stained, perhaps in imitation of tortoiseshell. The frame is carefully marked on the inside of the mount, and in addition to the Nevalainen workmaster's mark, carries the signature of Karl Armfelt another Fabergé workmaster. By tradition, the photograph, which is original to the frame, depicts Yulia Kschessinskaya, the elder sister of famed Russian Imperial ballerina Mathilde Kschessinskaya.
