越二年，葉恭綽重睹此作，遙想昔日彼邦展會盛況，中國蜚聲世界，反觀時局，日本侵佔東北，繼而發動「一二八」事變，建立「偽滿洲國」，葉氏亦絕意仕途，退隱專注文化學術。今昔對比，不禁滿腔鬱結，故援筆題句，連呼「美哉山河」，徒興慨歎。本幅於比利時展畢，即收入〈奇峰畫集〉第七輯，其後屢被援引登載，堪稱其山水代表作。
