Lot Details
Pastel. On flock-coated paper. 25 x 34.5 cm. , size of sheet. [JS].
- Characteristic, colorful composition. - By using velvet paper for his pastels, Hölzel achieved a particularly intense and radiant chromatic depth. - The central motif of the Adoration testifies to Hölzel's path towards a maximum of abstract figuration in the early 1930s. - From the Deutsche Bank Collection.
We are grateful to Dr. Alexander Klee, Vienna, for his kind support in cataloging this lot.
LITERATURE: Auf Papier. Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts aus der Deutschen Bank, published by Deutsche Bank AG, Ostfildern 1995, p. 132 (illu. on p. 133).
From the artist's estate. Art dealer Wolfgang Wittrock, Düsseldorf. Deutsche Bank Collection, Frankfurt a. M. (acquired from the above in 1985)
In good condition. Faint rubbing in the margins due to framing and with isolated slight creases, fingermarks and traces of rubbing. Upper left corner with a tiny paper loss. Tiny pinholes in the corners from the making.
