Lot Details
Brush and India ink drawing. Signed in lower right. On fine brownish paper. 45 x 60 cm. , the full sheet. [JS].
- One of the free, spontaneous and painterly brush-and-ink drawings from Ruttebüll. - In his ink drawings created in the coastal village of Ruttebüll in 1909, Nolde developed a new compositional structure for the depiction of landscape, which was to be the inspiration for his famous landscape watercolors from then on. - From 1906 to 1907, Nolde was a member of the artists' association "Brücke" and from 1908 a member of the Berlin Secession. - From the Deutsche Bank Collection.
Accompanied by a photo expertise issued by Prof. Dr. Martin Urban, Nolde Foundation Seebüll, from March 8, 1994 (copy). The drawing is registered at the Nolde Foundation, Seebüll.
Deutsche Bank Collection, Frankfurt a. M. (presumably acquired from the artist's estate around 1956)
Good overall impression. Minimally browned, the sheet edges clearer around the edges. Edges with occasional small tears and paper losses, partly extending slightly into the image and partly closed or professionally backed. At top center in black superficially rubbed in places and probably professionally retouched. Lower center with a vertical crease. Occasionally slightly unfixed and with a few faint handling creases.
