The history of what is known to be the world's oldest family-owned auction house, Kunsthaus Lempertz, began in Bonn in 1798 as an "antiquarian bookshop with auction house" selling books and prints. Today, with its headquarters in Cologne, Kunsthaus Lempertz is one of the leading auction houses in Europe, with around 20 auctions held annually.
