Psychedelic Art / Psychedelia
Psychedelic art, psychedelic art or psychedelia generally refers to an art form that flourished in the 1960s, in which the creation of artworks is closely related to the influence of mind-expanding drugs, especially LSD. The predominantly painterly and graphic works were often created under the influence of a drug, or reflect the drug-induced state. The most striking characteristic features of the psychedelic aesthetic include the use of garish, fluorescent colors, and swirling, repetitive patterns and ornaments with high visual impact. As a stylistic phenomenon, the heyday of psychedelic art is limited to the 1960s and 1970s, but trends of a psychedelic approach to art can be seen into contemporary art. This art movement was closely related to music and manifested itself nowhere so clearly as in record covers and posters of the time.
