Stuckism
Stuckism refers to the anti-conceptual art movement launched in 1999 by Billy Childish (b. 1959) and Charles Thomson (b. 1953) that advocates figurative painting. Stuckism emerged as a counter-movement to the Young British Artists after one of the YBAs' leading artists, Tracey Emin (b. 1963), described Billy Childish's art as stuck ("stuck!"). "Stuck! Stuck! Stuck!" became the title of the first group exhibition in 1999 at Gallery 108 in London, and after modest beginnings, Stuckism developed into an international art movement, with numerous independent groups.
