Skupina Výtvarných Umělcû (SVU)

The Skupina Výtvarných Umělcû ("Group of Visual Artists"), a grouping of Czech Cubists, was founded in Prague in 1911. Combining the styles of Cubism, Expressionism, and (to a lesser extent) Futurism with a local Czech twist, it allowed an internationally unique movement to flourish that lasted until World War I. Members of the group experimented with forms in a variety of ways and promoted exhibitions of local art at home and abroad. The group published a magazine Umělecký měsíĉník ("Art Month") from 1911 to 1914, were in contact with the Brücke artists in Germany, and exhibited as a group at the Sturm Gallery in Berlin in 1913.
