Hi-Red Center

Hi-Red Center was a radical collective founded in Tokyo by three Japanese installation and performance artists whose group name, intended to evoke Marxist associations, was derived from the English translations of the first letters of their family names. Inspired by Japan's Neo-Dada movement and Fluxus, the group, active from 1963-1964, used the urban environment as a canvas to create interventions that broke down boundaries between art and everyday life, cementing their position as one of the most important artist groups of the 1960s in Japan.
