Group Zebra
The founding members of the Zebra artists' group had all studied at the Hamburg Academy of Fine Arts and formed at the turn of the year 1964/1965 to rebel against the prevailing abstraction. They developed a new figurative aesthetic and formulated the foundations of their "New Realism" in their founding manifesto. The group's main concern with this newly created "New Realism" was to tie in with the art of the pre-war period, such as Magic Realism.
