Caravaggism
Although Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio worked mainly alone and had no direct pupils, his work exerted a lasting influence on Baroque painting and was frequently received. His revolutionary approach to painting, particularly his dramatic use of chiaroscuro, had its fame beyond Italian borders in many parts of Europe. The term Caravaggism refers to painters who imitated Caravaggio's style in the early 17th century.
