Ilse Bing (German/American, 1899-1998) Street Cleaner at Sidewalk, Paris, 1947 Gelatin silver print, printed later 13-1/4 x 10-1/2 inches (33.7 x 26.7 cm) (image) 14 x 11 inches (sheet) Signed and dated in ink in the image, recto. Signed, titled, and dated in pencil, verso. After Ilse and her husband Conrad Wolf moved to the United States in 1941, escaping occupied France, she would make regular trips back to Paris-- her spiritual home and the place where she made most of her iconic images in the early '30's. This vantage point from above and the striking geometry of the street and the cleaner with the passerby show how incredibly tuned in she is to the passing or "decisive" moment. Here was a quintessential photographer at work, a master of the medium. HID12401132022 © 2025 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
