Ruth Orkin (American, 1921-1985) The Card Players, New York City (6-work polyptych), 1947 Gelatin silver print, printed later 6-1/8 x 8-1/8 inches (15.6 x 20.8 cm) (image) 8 x 10 inches (sheet) Each signed, one titled in ink, lower margin recto. Each signed, titled, dated, and numbered in pencil, verso. LITERATURE: Orkin, A Photo Journal, Viking Press, 1981, New York, p. 48; Engel & Gresh, Ruth Orkin: A Photo Spirit, Hatje Cantz, Berlin, 2022, pp. 56-59. In his groundbreaking Family of Man exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1955. Steichen considered the final frame of the sequence featuring an ecstatic child called Marilyn "the gayest spot in the symphony."
