Lot Details
Feodor Rückert: An Important Russian Gem-Set and Translucent-Enameled Partial Gilt Silver-Mounted Leather 25th Anniversary Presentation Desk Folio ЭКТ, Moscow, 1908-1917, circa 1911 17 x 12-1/2 inches (43.2 x 31.8 cm) This exceptional work by the Rückert workshop as a gift to their head was presented on the 25th anniversary of his workshop's founding. Rückert opened his own studio in 1886, and by the end of the century was working extensively with the Fabergé firm. The folio features an en plein enamel rendering of a photograph of Feodor Rückert, executed with astonishing skill, and matte translucent "eyes" to each peacock feather in iridescent colors. The Russian hallmark ЭКТ is unknown. As the folio was clearly meant for presentation to Rückert by his staff of artisans, they may have done the work in another studio to keep the creation of this work from the Master.
