Published by Suffolk Engraving Company. LITERATURE: Edward S. Curtis: The North American Indian, the Complete Portfolios, Taschen, 1997, Vol. XVII, p. 648. "In prehistoric times, the Tewa were so beset by roving enemies that not a few of them, for purposes of defense, became cliff-dwellers. With a watchman posted in a niche of the cliff or on a commanding elevation, there was little chance of an enemy surprising laborers in the cornfields," (Edward S. In very good condition overall. Areas of minor soiling along top margin; a band of unobtrusive warming around image (caused by light strike), minor wear at edges/ corners, none affecting the image. Loose print cornered into a modern archival mat. Unframed.
