Lot Details
Kawanabe Kyōsai (Japanese, 1831-1889) Okuda Sadaemon Yukitaka, from the series Japanese Brocades from the Genroku Era (Genroku Yamato nishiki), circa 1885 Woodblock print with shōmen-zuri details 14-7/8 x 10 inches (37.8 x 25.4 cm) (sheet, ōban) Signed: Seisei Kyōsai Saku; with the artist's red ink seal Published by Takekawa Seikichi Property from the Nelkin Collection HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
Print presents well with intricate details. The condition of the work is consistent with its age. Mild toning to the sheet, inked colors still appear vibrant and fresh; two slightly heavier areas of toning, one along the horizontal center line of the sheet, right side; the other in the upper left corner in the margin; both likely inherent to the paper as the fibers appear to be toned. Mild buckling throughout the sheet with some minor handling dents. A negligible pin hole in the figure's hair, masked by the composition; a minor, small (1/8") hole to the left of the cartouche in the background. Unframed.
