The lithography is related to the oil painting of the same name from 1924 (cat. rais. no. Pirsig-Marshall/von Lüttichau (2019), cat. rais. no. G1924/01 (85); whereabouts unknown).

This coloured lithography is outside of the print run of 10 signed and numbered (?) copies and the roughly 12 preliminary proofs of this edition that were published by Galerie Ferdinand Möller, Berlin.

The lithograph illustrated in the catalog raisonné of prints under cat. rais. no. 137 shows a difference in the right margin of the print: While the black area above the hand shows an almost uniform color density in our sheet, it appears streaky and light at the bottom and more compact and dark at the top in the cat. rais. This difference may be due to the fact that a later correction was made on the stone.
