註：「考棚」乃科舉時代地方官學考試場所，大千取其諧音，用以命名家中燒烤亭。馮幼衡〈形象之外〉中憶述：「大千居士有一陣子忽然強烈地懷念起故都北平的烤肉來……因此大發豪興，建此『考棚』，為了讓朋友吃到正宗北方烤肉的滋味」。摩耶精舍後園築有「考亭」，以圓木為柱，棕皮為頂，內置烤架及數個醃製四川泡菜的陶甕；亭前立石，摹刻〈大千居士乞食圖〉，別具深意，又顯畫家詼諧幽默之趣。

註：張大千與張學良之交誼，世所共悉，傳為美談。神洲色變後，兩人各處東西，直到一九六四年才重晤於臺北。是年六月，大千得當局批准，赴北投拜會張學良及趙一荻。翌月，張趙在杭州南路一美籍友人家中舉行婚禮，觀禮者十餘人，大千亦在其中。一九六五年春，寫〈摩詰山園圖〉自巴西寄贈，作開歲之賀禮，此亦重聚後首幀致贈之作。自此贈畫不輟，無論大幛小品，皆用心精製。本幅寫於復聚後不久，乃畫家抽象技巧最盛之期，畫面烟雲繚繞，一片氤氳，如雨後濕氣未消，極盡朦朧飄渺之意境。張學良得此珍愛甚矣，未有示人，後付與兒輩。

註︰本幅「薩埵太子捨身飼虎圖」，臨橅自莫高窟第二百五十四窟南壁，該窟建於北魏，屬敦煌石窟中繪此本生故事之較早者。畫面描述摩訶薩埵王子為飢虎捨出肉身，悟道成佛之故事，呈現發願救虎、刺頸跳崖、虎食薩埵、親人哀悼、起塔供養五幕情節。畫幅局部細節尚待鈎勒，乃未完稿，面貌與畫家捐贈博物館之壁畫摹本相若。
