- Bright, warm and cheerful colors. - With the open door in the background, the seemingly ordinary motif gains in formal and intellectual complexity. - From 1933 onward, Erich Heckel faced increasing repression under the National Socialist regime. - As part of the "Degenerate Art" campaign, almost 800 of his works were confiscated from German museums, many were destroyed.
