The sitter is Dr. Wilhelm Niemeyer (1874-1960), art historian, writer and one of the most important supporters of modern art in Germany. The depiction can also be found in a painting by Schmidt-Rottluff from 1921/22 (tow lost). The tie pin is a piece of jewelry designed by Schmidt-Rottluff, as can be seen in a photo from 1913 (cf. Gerhard Wietek, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Zeichnungen auf Postkarten, Cologne 2015, pp. 427ff.).
In good condition. Barely noticeable light staining. Isolated tiny spots. Creased and with smoothed creases in the margins as well as with single professionally closed small tears, especially in the edges.
