Lot Details

- Magnificent, large-format still life in Böckstiegel's characteristic, vibrant and luminous colors. - Light and color as expressive means of pictorial design are decisive for his entire oeuvre. - From 1919-1920 Böckstiegel was a member of the artists' group “Dresdner Sezession Gruppe 1919” around Conrad Felixmüller and Otto Dix, and subsequently became a member of the Dresdner Künstlervereinigung and the Deutscher Künstlerbund.
LITERATURE: David Riedel, Peter August Böckstiegel: Die Gemälde 1910-1951, Munich 2014, no. 119 ( illustrated on p. 127). Jutta Hülsewig-Johnen/Vita von Wedel (ed.), Peter August Böckstiegel. Menschen und Landschaften. Monografie und Werkverzeichnis, Cologne 1997, p. 229, no. 105 ( illustrated in color, p. 137, plate 47).
Peter August Böckstiegel, Schloss Ettlingen, December 10, 1978 - January 18, 1979, cat. no. 21. Kunst in Bielefeld, Malerei und Graphik 1900-1933, Kunsthalle Bielefeld, July 24 - October 9, 1983, cat. no. 8. Peter August Böckstiegel. Menschen und Landschaften, Kunsthalle Bielefeld, October 19, 1997 - January 4, 1998, p. 229 (full-page color illu. on plate 47)
Private collection, Baden-Württemberg (presumably directly from the artist). Family-owned ever since
In good condition. Craquelure in places of the impasto areas. Flaked spots in paint application expertly retouched, not impairing the painting's overall impression in daylight. The condition report was compiled to the best of our knowledge and belief in daylight and with the help of an ultraviolet light. [KA]
