Maurice Tabard (French, 1897-1984) Nature Morte, "Les Conquerants", Malraux, 1929 Gelatin silver print 8-1/2 x 6-3/4 inches (21.6 x 17.1 cm) (image/sheet) Embossed with photographer's blindstamp, signed and dated in pencil, mount recto. Titled in pencil, date and photographer's stamp, mount verso. Although photomontage and the photogram were generally used separately, Tabard saw that the idea of montage -- the juxtaposition of multiple images on a single plane -- might also include photograms and he began to layer negatives and positives made with a camera with photograms. The resulting photocollages photocollages make for a compelling mixture of light and dark and two and three dimensions. HID12401132022 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
