Harold Arthur Roney (American, 1899-1986) Texas Bluebonnets Oil on canvasboard 8 x 10 inches (20.3 x 25.4 cm) Signed lower right: Harold A. Roney Property from the collection of Dr. James Steele, Houston Texas Harold Roney is not a native Texan, nevertheless, Texas was his home. Having trained in Chicago at the Art Academy and the Art Institute as well as studying with famed American artists Harry Leith Ross and John Folinsbee in Pennsylvania, his was firmly rooted in the tradition of American landscape artists. Roney settled in Texas and painted with artists Harry A. de Young and Paul Schuman. Utilizing both brush and palette knife, Roney captures the Texas hill country in a traditional western tone.
