Artist Placement Group

Founded in London in 1966, the Artist Placement Group (APG) actively sought to reposition the role of the artist within a broader social context, while also playing an important role in the history of conceptual art in the 1960s and 1970s. APG sought to give art a new social function by placing artists outside the narrow confines of art institutions, which, according to APG, meant placing artists in industrial sectors and public institutions. The artist was to leave his studio and abandon the traditional role of isolated genius to collaborate instead with workers, technicians, and employees in factories and various businesses, which would also expand artistic freedom.
