New British Sculpture

The term New British Sculpture refers to the work of a loose group of British sculptors in the 1980s who pursued a more traditional approach to materials, methods and techniques as a reaction to Minimal Art and Conceptual Art. The artists were not united by a single style, but they collectively sought ways to avoid abandoning the object altogether (in keeping with Conceptual Art), while also avoiding a return to traditional figure sculpture. Their works are predominantly abstract, but exhibit slight figurative and metaphorical traits in the visual language.
