Light and Space

Light and Space refers to a loose art movement of the 1960s and 1970s that originated in Southern California and referenced Op Art, Minimalism, and geometric abstraction. Participants did not form an organized group; they were united by an interest in visual perception and the pursuit of a light and space aesthetic. Characteristic of the movement is the play with natural or artificial light through the use of transparent, translucent or reflective materials, involving the reception of the viewer.
