The group Dau al Set ("seven-sided cube" or "cube showing a seven") was founded in Barcelona in 1948. The artists, rooted in Surrealism, wanted to promote the development of abstract painting in Spain, with a focus on a gestural-expressive style of painting. The group's magazine of the same name brought their conception of art to the public and significantly influenced informal art in Spain.
