Deutschrömer

In addition to the Nazarenes, there is another group of artists active in the 1950s who are called Deutschrömer. This group was strongly oriented towards Roman antiquity and can therefore be classified as Neoclassicism. The artists, who lived in Rome, turned away from the painting of realism and strove for the classical ideal of art inspired by antiquity and the Italian Renaissance.
