Vorticism (Latin vortex, "vortex") is a British avant-garde movement in the visual arts and literature that aimed to create art that expressed the dynamics of the modern world. Often referred to as the English equivalent of Futurism, the movement reached its peak between 1912 and 1915 and took inspiration from the Futurists' conception of art as well as from Cubism and other avant-garde movements. The artists of Vorticism understood art as the result of an emotional vortex, whereby energy is given a form.
