German late Gothic

In the art of the German-speaking world in the 15th and early 16th centuries, a clear influence of Dutch developments was noticeable. In the depiction of body and space, as well as in the expression of light and shadow, the proximity to reality became increasingly important. In particular, biblical scenes and depictions from saintly legends were increasingly embedded in a realistic environment. In addition, profane motifs such as landscape depictions and, above all, portrait painting became established.
