Ruralists / Brotherhood of Ruralists

Founded in 1975, the British artist group The Brotherhood of Ruralists, or Ruralists for short, focused on reviving figurative motifs in idyllic rural settings in the style of high-precision realism. No common style can be defined for this group of artists inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites of the 19th century, but the painters shared artistic ideals: their work was characterized by a strong adherence to traditional skills, as well as a devotion to nature and rural life. They were also united by a common dissatisfaction with abstraction and the radical currents of avant-garde art.
