Anti-Form

Anti-form is a term associated with a number of artists active in the late 1960s who allow chance and other organic processes to play a role in the creation of their sculptures, resulting in the artists relinquishing control over the final appearance of the artwork. Anti-form sculptors work on the principle that form is derived from the nature of the chosen material. Materiality becomes anti-form, there is a suspension of plastic uniqueness in the sense of a single sculptural state, whereby, except for the enduring three-dimensionality, the zero point of sculpture is reached.
