Grupo Frente was an artist collective based in Rio de Janeiro, founded in 1954 by Ivan Serpa (1923-1973). The group united artists from originally very different stylistic backgrounds, who rejected the nationalism and figuration of the prevailing traditional Brazilian painting style and were very fond of the ideas of concrete art. The group saw itself as a loose collective of concrete artists, from which developed the art style of neo-concretism, which has great importance in modern art in Brazil.
