Performance art, which emerged in the 1970s in the USA, offers unlimited possibilities for artistic expression. A performance is an artistic event that is created by the performance of one or more artists and increasingly eclipses the work. It is no longer about a material artistic end result, but the action itself functions as the artist's means of expression and illustration of the idea.
