The artists' collective "WIR" was a group of young artists founded in 1959 who had met at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. Especially at the beginning, the painters were inspired by the pictorial dynamics of the Baroque, which, in combination with the gestural-impulsive painting style of Informel, led in the direction of a figurative abstract expressionism. In the 1960 Manifesto, the artists stated that a work of art should capture the spirit of the creative artist and transfer it to the viewer.
