The Symbolist artists' group Golubaya Roza ("Blue Rose") was founded in Moscow in 1904 and was active until 1908. The colour blue was attributed special significance in Symbolism because it was associated with the spiritual, and the rose refers to the group's special preference for flower symbolism. Characteristic of the works of Golubaya Roza is the combination of elements of Symbolism, Fauvism and Primitivism.
