Mannerism

Mannerism refers to the style of art in the transitional phase between the late Renaissance and the early Baroque, which began in Italy as early as around 1520, but did not start in northern Europe until 1600. Typical for the style of Mannerism is the departure from the ideal of harmony, which is noticeable through overlong figures, unnatural proportions, twisted movements, unclear spatial arrangements with artificial, contrasting colour and light effects within the depictions.
