Hans Staudacher
1923 - January 2021
The Austrian painter Hans Staudacher was born on January 14 in St. Urban, Carinthia. Here he grows up in simple circumstances, surrounded by the natural landscape of Carinthia and Lake Ossiach, which he captures in drawings and landscape watercolors at a young age. Hans Staudacher becomes a student of Arnold Clementschitsch at the Carinthian Provincial Institute for Fine Arts in Klagenfurt. In 1950 Hans Staudacher moves to Vienna and becomes a member of the Vienna Secession. The roots of Hans Staudacher's art lie in figuration, but in Vienna he turns to gestural expressive art in his art at the beginning of the 1950s. Hans Staudacher creates small-format gray and black paintings in the style of informal art. They are soon replaced by larger, colored works, and the first tachist resin and stamp paintings as well as collages are created. Several stays in Paris between 1954 and 1962 familiarize him with the French style of Tachism and lyrical abstraction as well as Lettrism. Especially the art of Georges Mathieu made a lasting impression on Hans Staudacher.
