The American artist Robert Motherwell was born on January 24, 1915 in Aberdeen, Washington. He became enthusiastic about art at an early age and copied the works of the great masters. In his final thesis, he studied Eugène Delacroix's diary. He travels to France for this in 1938, studying in Grenoble and Paris, where he paints himself in addition to working on his thesis. In 1939 he returned to the USA and lived in New York.
