Wilhelm Klein 1821 Düsseldorf - 1897 Remagen The German painter Wilhelm Klein, born in Düsseldorf in 1821, is attributed to the Düsseldorf School with his atmospheric landscape paintings. Wilhelm Klein studied at the Royal Prussian Academy of Art in Düsseldorf from 1831 to 1843, first with Julius Hübner, then from 1835 to 1840 with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer, and finally from 1840 to 1843 he was a master student of Wilhelm Schadow. Wilhelm Klein undertakes numerous study trips through Germany and Switzerland, Upper Italy, Tyrol as well as Belgium and the Netherlands. Düsseldorf School of Painting Wilhelm Klein's paintings are characterized by simple beauty and poetic mood. He finds his motifs in the landscapes of the Middle Rhine, the Eifel, the Bergisches Land, he travels along the Lower Rhine to the Dutch coast, often visits the Alpine regions. Among Wilhelm Klein's preferences are the depictions of evening and thunderstorm moods as well as seasonal changes, for example, in the winter landscape. In addition to the romantic landscapes typical of the 19th century, Wilhelm Klein also painted a number of portraits of his subjects in the folk costumes of the countries and landscapes he visited. Co-founder of the artists' association "Malkasten" As early as 1838 Wilhelm Klein was able to show his paintings at art exhibitions in Germany, for example at the Berlin Academy Exhibitions. In 1848 Wilhelm Klein was a co-founder and from 1848 to 1897 a member of the Düsseldorf artists' association "Malkasten". Wilhelm Klein died in Remagen in 1897.
