The U.S. painter George Condo was born in 1957 in Concord, New Hampshire. From 1976 to 1978 he studied art history and music theory at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He then lived in Boston, where he worked in a print shop and produced his first artistic works. During a brief stay in New York in 1979 with the music band in which he was a member at the time, George Condo met Jean-Michel Basquiat, who guided him through the New York art scene. George Condo then moved to New York, where he developed his artistic and musical interests. He soon became close friends with Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, became an important part of the New York art scene in the early 1980s, and worked as an employee at Andy Warhol's Factory. In 1983 George Condo has his first solo exhibition at the Ulrike Kantor Gallery in Los Angeles as well as several gallery shows in New York's East Village.
