Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto was born in Tokyo on February 23, 1948. In 1970, he graduates from Saint Paul's University there with a degree in political science and sociology before moving to the U.S. and studying photography at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles until 1974. In 1974 Hiroshi Sugimoto moved to New York and began to work artistically as a photographer with an old large-format camera. A progressively advancing and highly regarded body of work has emerged to date, making Hiroshi Sugimoto one of the most important contemporary photographers.
