Giorgio de Chirico

1888 - 1978
The Italian painter Giorgio de Chirico was born on July 10, 1888 in Volos, Greece, to Italian parents. In 1903-1906 he studied engineering at the Athens Polytechnic. After the early death of his father in 1905, his mother moved to Munich with her two sons at the end of 1906. Here Giorgio de Chirico attends the Academy of Fine Arts, his brother Andrea (who from 1914 calls himself Alberto Savinio) becomes a musician. In Munich Giorgio de Chirico sees for the first time works by Arnold Böcklin and Max Klinger, which make a lasting impression on him. He reads with great interest the philosophical writings of Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and Weininger.
