Josef Albers

1888 - 1976
The German-American artist Josef Albers was born in Bottrop on March 19, 1888. He initially trained as a teacher and taught as an elementary school teacher in North Rhine-Westphalia until 1913. Inspired by the art of modern artists, which he sees, for example, in exhibitions at the Museum Folkwang in Essen, he begins to study again in 1913, first 1913-1915 at the Royal School of Art in Berlin and at the School of Arts and Crafts in Essen, then 1916-1919 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and 1919 at the Academy of Art in Munich.
