The Catalan artist Joan Miró was born in Barcelona on April 20, 1893. From 1907 Joan Miró attended the art academy La Llotja in Barcelona. At the same time Miró completes an education demanded by his parents at the commercial school there. A serious illness in 1911 brings the decision that Joan Miró can devote himself entirely to art. From 1912 to 1915 he attends the private art school of Francesc Galí, in 1915 he moves into his own studio in Barcelona, has drawing lessons at the Cercle artistic de Sant Lluc. In 1912 Miró sees an exhibition of works of French Cubism and Fauvism at the Galerie Dalmau, in 1916 he visits the exhibition of French avant-garde art organized by the art dealer Ambroise Vollard here. In 1917 he meets Francis Picabia, who at that time publishes the Dadaist magazine "391". Miró begins to take an interest in modern poetry. In 1918 Joan Miró succeeded in holding his first exhibition of his works, mainly landscapes and still lifes, in the gallery of the art dealer Joseph Dalmau. Finally, in 1920 Miró traveled to Paris for the first time, where he had a studio from 1921 and came into lively contact with the artists of Surrealism over the next few years.
