Painted in the early 1970s, Fleurs dates to Le Pho's mature period, when the artist had fully developed the rich, decorative style that defines his late work. By this time, he was painting almost exclusively in oil on canvas, favoring a more fluid handling and a luminous surface that reflects the influence of French modernism—particularly Pierre Bonnard and Henri Matisse—while retaining the refinement of his Vietnamese academic training (further following the French example). In the present composition, the floral still life is treated less as still-life arrangement than as an atmospheric color field. The bouquet dissolves into its surrounding space through soft, layered brushwork and a harmonious palette, creating a sense of quiet movement and visual unity. This merging of color, form and ground is a hallmark of Le Pho's production from this period and contributes to the enduring appeal of his compositions. Through the 1960s and 1970s, Le Pho's floral subjects brought him international fame and became an important part of his production.
