LITERATURE: C. Chiarenza, Aaron Siskind, Pleasures and Terrors, Boston, 1982, pp. 33. Siskind started out as a high school teacher in the New York City public schools after graduating from City College in 1926. When he began to explore photography in the 30s, he was mostly a documentary photographer. It was not until the late 40s, did he start to come under the influence of the Abstract Expressionist, like Franz Kline, Mark Rothko and Willem DeKooning, and realized the potential in photography for the same kinds of explorations. In this Harlem image, he is documenting two local boys in front of a peddler's cart in Harlem. HID12401132022 © 2025 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved www.HA.com/TexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
