Irving Penn (American, 1917-2009) Miles Davis, 1986 Selenium toned gelatin silver print 14-3/4 x 14-3/4 inches (37.5 x 37.5 cm) (image/sheet) Signed, titled, and dated in ink, and with photographer's copyright stamps, mount verso. Gifted by the artist to Miles Davis,1986; Cicely Tyson, by descent to present owner.
Overall very good condition. 3 small circular indentations towards left edge, (area of middle finger, hair and [his] right shoulder). Tiny circular mounting protrusion at left edge toward lower left corner. Unobtrusive speck of retouching, nose area; small network of linear scuffs/scratches, lower right quadrant towards right edge (background), all visible in raking light. Dry mounted to a 17 x 17 inch mat board with minor soiling verso, not affecting the image.
