Lot Details
A Russian Porcelain Art Nouveau Vase Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, Period of Nicholas II (1894-1917), circa 1904 9-1/2 x 6-3/8 inches (24.1 x 16.2 cm) PROVENANCE: The Thomas Mansfield Collection of Imperial Russian Porcelain; John Atzbach Antiques, Bellevue, Washington; The Kathleen Durdin Collection of Russian Decorative Arts, Tampa, Florida. The Imperial Porcelain Factory reached a significant level of refinement and artistry during the reign of Nicholas II (1894–1917). This period is often associated with the opulence and splendor of late Imperial Russia, but the period is most interesting for its unusual and experiments with modern styles and influences. During Nicholas II's reign, the designs of these vases often combined traditional Russian motifs with influences from European art movements: this vase combines an art nouveau form, painted decoration which recalls both Russian & Ukrainian embroidery, and the influence of the German and Austrian Jugendstil movements.
