A Pair of Russian Porcelain Ice Cups from the Peterhof Banquet Service Imperial Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, Period of Nicholas I (1825-1855), circa 1860 2-5/8 x 3-7/8 x 3 inches (6.7 x 9.8 x 7.6 cm) PROVENANCE: John Atzbach Antiques, Bellevue, Washington; The Kathleen Durdin Collection of Russian Decorative Arts, Tampa, Florida. The banqueting service of the Great Palace at Peterhof was copied after a famous Sevres model, a gift from Louis XV of France to Christian VII of Denmark in 1768. The "Service a Feuilles de Choux" (or "cabbage-leaf' service) was widely imitated, and a large service in the pattern was commissioned during the reign of Nicholas I (1825-1855) intended to serve 250 people.
